Barcelona Set to Extend Ansu Fati’s Contract Ahead of Loan Move

FC Barcelona is making moves to help Ansu Fati leave the club this summer.

They’re trying to find creative ways to manage their finances while making sure they stay within La Liga’s salary rules. One option on the table is to extend Fati’s contract before he departs.

After some time without progress, talks between AS Monaco and Barcelona about the transfer of Fati are picking up speed again. Agent Jorge Mendes is involved in the discussions. Barcelona wants to reduce Fati’s salary, Monaco is keen to bring him on board, and Fati himself is looking for more opportunities to play.

Reports indicate that Barcelona plans to extend Ansu Fati’s contract before he potentially moves to Monaco. Currently, his contract runs until 2027, but there’s a good chance it could be extended to 2028. It’s unclear if the new deal will maintain the same salary or if FC Barcelona’s intention is to spread the financial impact over a longer period. Keeping control over Fati’s future seems crucial for Barcelona; should he regain his form, they would be in a better position for negotiations next year, as he would have only one year left on his contract.

This strategy mirrors Barcelona’s decision to extend Clement Lenglet’s contract by two years last summer, likely as a way to manage costs ahead of his loan move to Atletico Madrid.

Ansu Fati is expected to undergo a medical with Monaco FC this week to finalize a loan deal that includes an option to buy. Monaco is set to cover a portion of Fati’s wages, although the exact details regarding this and the buy option’s valuation are still unclear. Initially, Barcelona had expressed a preference for a direct sale with a buyback clause, but it seems they are now more flexible in their approach.

Is this a good deal for FC Barcelona?
