Liverpool do not seem to be finished in the summer transfer window, even after confirming the £79million signing of Hugo Ekitike. The French forward joins Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Florian Wirtz as new arrivals, with more additions being targeted for both the offensive and defensive lines.
Following Jarell Quansah’s departure, Liverpool’s depth at centre-back has diminished, leading to an interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. Jorrel Hato from Ajax is also on their radar, although the 19-year-old seems inclined toward a move to Chelsea after recent discussions were initiated.
Given Ajax’s asking price of around £60million, it might be wise for Ajax to explore other options, especially considering they’ve already invested nearly £300million this window. However, Liverpool remains in a strong position to pursue Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
The Swedish forward has expressed his desire to leave St James’ Park, which explains his absence from the friendly loss to Celtic. Isak is also nursing a minor thigh injury, which contributed to him missing the Magpies’ pre-season tour in Asia. This situation is particularly noteworthy as both Liverpool and Arsenal have recently committed substantial funds to secure other attackers. Before Liverpool opted for Ekitike, Isak was reportedly valued at around £120million.
It’s unlikely Newcastle would consider a deal at that price, yet the CIES Football Observatory estimates his value to be between £82.2million (€94m) and £96.2million (€110m). This valuation raises eyebrows, especially since his contract runs until 2028.
Liverpool could certainly finance such a transfer if that amount is required, and even if the price is significantly higher, it could still be covered by three major sales.
Darwin Nunez has been speculated as one of those departing players, although Napoli, who had shown significant interest in the Uruguayan, have recently signed Lorenzo Lucca as a replacement for the departing Victor Osimhen.
Additionally, following an impressive run in the U21 European Championships, Harvey Elliot may seek a move for more consistent first-team action. Lastly, Luis Diaz has caught the eye of Bayern Munich, who are reportedly preparing a new offer exceeding £58.5million (€67.5m), according to Sky Sports Germany.
