Luis Díaz to Undergo Medical as Bayern Finalize €75m Deal with Liverpool

Luis Diaz is set to fly to Munich to undergo his Bayern Munich medical on Monday. Liverpool has reached an agreement with the Bundesliga champions regarding the sale of Diaz, after Bayern increased their offer to £65.4 million. The 28-year-old Colombian forward has received the green light to leave Liverpool’s Far East tour and is preparing to finalize his departure from Anfield.

This summer, Luis Diaz stated his intention to leave Liverpool, particularly after the club refused to negotiate a contract. Since then, he has been pushing for a move to Munich. He has been negotiating a new deal with his squad for more than a year, claiming that he is not being paid enough. However, the management at Liverpool has been hesitant to meet his demands.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Luis Diaz will head to Bavaria on Monday for his medical examination before signing his contract. He missed Liverpool’s 4-2 defeat against AC Milan on Saturday, as the team continues its pre-season tour in Asia. After the match, manager Arne Slot confirmed that Diaz’s absence is linked to his uncertain future, but reassured fans that he has been training well.

Last week, Liverpool rejected an initial bid from Bayern worth £58.5 million. Nevertheless, Vincent Kompany’s side remained determined in their pursuit of Diaz and is now on the verge of securing their target. Bayern submitted an improved offer of £65.4 million over the weekend, which Liverpool has accepted.

Following the loss to Milan, Slot was asked whether the absences of both Diaz and teammate Darwin Nunez were related to possible transfers. He stated, “In Lucho’s (Diaz’s) situation it was, yeah. There are a lot of rumors around lately, and I cannot delve into that. But he is training really well with us, and we’ve decided, for now, not to play him.”

Regarding Nunez, Slot mentioned, “He has trained really well and played a few good games for us this pre-season. He was injured, so we didn’t want to take the risk, and it was the same with Wataru Endo, who trained with us all week, but we didn’t want to take a risk with him either. It’s part of pre-season; the boys need to build match fitness, and sometimes it’s a thin balance.”

Bayern Munich’s boss, Kompany, reportedly had a video call with Luis Diaz recently, outlining his vision for the former Porto player, who joined Liverpool for £37.5 million in January 2022. The Bundesliga giants are actively searching for a forward after failing to secure their prime target Florian Wirtz, who was taken by Liverpool, and with seasoned players Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller leaving on free transfers this summer. They are also preparing for an extended absence of Jamal Musiala due to injury.
