Staveley to Reveal Tottenham Plans as Ownership Rumors Swirl

Amanda Staveley, the high-profile businesswoman and former co-owner of Newcastle United, is preparing to confirm that she will not pursue a takeover of Tottenham Hotspur, despite speculation in recent weeks linking her with a move for the North London club.

According to Sky News, a statement is expected on Monday from PCP International Finance, the investment vehicle controlled by Staveley, which will make clear that no formal bid for Spurs is being considered. The clarification comes after reports that Staveley had been holding exploratory talks with potential backers about mounting a bid.

Tottenham are entering a new era following the departure of long-serving chairman Daniel Levy, who stepped down after nearly 25 years at the helm. CEO Vinai Venkatesham, who previously held senior roles at Arsenal, is expected to play a more prominent leadership role moving forward.

Levy retains close to 30 percent of the club’s shares and has left with a strong sense of pride. “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees,” the 63-year-old said. “We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community.”

Staveley, 52, is no stranger to Premier League boardrooms. She and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, played a central role in facilitating Newcastle’s Saudi-backed takeover in 2021, initially holding a 10 percent stake.

Her involvement with Newcastle left a lasting mark. In an interview last year, Staveley admitted: “My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way.”

That passion for football ownership naturally led to speculation when Staveley and Ghodoussi were spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as guests of the club for a Premier League fixture against Brentford in September 2024. Reports at the time suggested they were weighing a “significant investment” in Spurs, though Monday’s expected statement will end that chapter.

For now, Tottenham’s focus remains on stability during a time of leadership transition, while Staveley and her husband continue to assess opportunities for future projects in football.
