Glasner Ties Could Aid Crystal Palace in January Transfer Push

Crystal Palace’s hopes of landing Sacha Boey from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window have reportedly been strengthened by manager Oliver Glasner close relationship with Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.

According to BILD, the pair have known each other for several years, having previously worked together during their time at Red Bull Salzburg. That long-standing connection could help smooth the negotiations as Palace step up their efforts to bring Boey to Selhurst Park.

Reports earlier this week revealed that the Eagles had made a concrete offer for the French right-back and that Glasner had already been in contact with Bayern to explore the possibility of a deal. BILD now suggest those discussions are not only genuine but also well-facilitated thanks to the positive relationship between Glasner and Freund — a factor that could give Palace an edge in what might otherwise be a complex mid-season transfer.

Bayern Open to Selling Boey in January

The German outlet further reports that Bayern Munich are open to offloading Boey, with a January move described as “possible.” The reigning Bundesliga champions are said to have accepted that they will not recoup the full €30 million they paid to sign the defender from Galatasaray earlier this year.

While Boey arrived in Bavaria amid high expectations, his debut season has been disrupted by injuries and stiff competition for places. As a result, his game time has been limited, prompting Bayern to consider offers that would help them balance their books and reshape their squad.

A fee in the region of €18 million (£15.4m) is believed to be enough to tempt Bayern into doing business, allowing them to recover a substantial portion of their initial outlay.

Palace Looking to Strengthen Key Positions

For Crystal Palace, signing Boey would represent a major coup as they aim to strengthen their defence ahead of the second half of the Premier League campaign. Boey, who is renowned for his athleticism and aggression, is a perfect fit for Glasner’s desire to add pace, energy, and attacking threat down the right flank.

Glasner is keen to add fresh talent to the team in January after the London club’s uneven start to the season. As Palace looks to move up the Premier League standings in 2025, his relationship with Freund may be vital in helping them land one of their top targets.
