Ange Postecoglou Tottenham Exit Sparks Managerial Hunt as Thomas Frank Responds to Approach
Brentford manager Thomas Frank is reportedly interested in succeeding Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur. The club officially confirmed Postecoglou’s dismissal on Friday evening, citing the emotional weight of securing their first trophy in 17 years as a factor. He led Spurs to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final just last month.
Despite this achievement, Ange Postecoglou lost his job due to a dismal Premier League performance, with Spurs finishing 17th and suffering 22 defeats. Now, Tottenham is actively searching for his replacement ahead of the pre-season, and an approach has already been made to Frank.
According to The Telegraph, Frank is keen on taking the managerial role at Tottenham and is considered the frontrunner for the position. The report highlights his positive relationship with Spurs’ sporting director, Johan Lange, stemming from their previous collaboration at Danish club Lyngby.
Tottenham labeled the decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou as one of the most challenging they’ve faced. Their official statement expressed gratitude for his dedication and contributions during his two-year tenure. Ange Postecoglou will be remembered as the third manager in Spurs history to win a European trophy, alongside the legendary Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.
The statement went on to explain that the board felt a change was necessary, especially after securing only 78 points from the last 66 Premier League matches, culminating in the club’s worst-ever league finish. While acknowledging the challenges faced, including injuries and focusing on the European campaign, they emphasized that they cannot make decisions based solely on emotional ties to recent triumphs.
With a talented young team ready to build on the foundation Ange Postecoglou laid, the club realized that a new strategy was necessary for future success and described the decision as tough but ultimately necessary. They also wished Ange Postecoglou well in his future and said he would always be welcome back at the club.
