Anthony Elanga Joins Newcastle in Blockbuster $74M Transfer

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) – In a significant move within the Premier League, forward Anthony Elanga has completed his transfer from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle United for a reported fee of 55 million pounds ($74 million), officially announced on Friday. This transfer marks a major acquisition for Newcastle as they strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Anthony Elanga, a talented Sweden international, has signed what the club describes as a long-term contract, indicating their commitment to him as a key player in their future plans.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe expressed his enthusiasm for the new signing, stating, “He is an exciting talent with attributes that make him a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy, and ability to not only create but also score goals will undoubtedly strengthen our squad and complement the style of play we are aiming for.”

The 23-year-old Elanga began his professional career at Manchester United, where he came through the youth ranks, but it was at Nottingham Forest where he truly made his mark. After transferring to Forest for 15 million pounds ($20 million) in 2023, he quickly established himself as one of the team’s most influential players. His performances were pivotal in Forest’s unexpected push for a Champions League spot last season. While the club ultimately fell short of achieving a top-five finish, Elanga’s contributions did not go unnoticed, and he will now have the chance to showcase his talents on the European stage with Newcastle.

This transfer marks Newcastle’s first significant signing of the offseason, signaling their intent to build on the success they achieved last season.

Upon joining the club, Anthony Elanga shared his excitement about the move: “I’m ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football. I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest; they played a huge role in helping me develop into the player I am today. However, I’m genuinely thrilled to be here now. This club not only won a trophy last season but is also building something unique, something truly special, and I am eager to be a part of it.”
