Arsenal Face Injury Concern Ahead of North London Derby
Arsenal have been handed a major injury concern ahead of next weekend’s North London Derby, with centre-back Gabriel Magalhães limping off during Brazil’s friendly against Senegal on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta’s side return to Premier League action against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon — a huge clash for both clubs. Arsenal sit top of the table with 26 points from 11 matches, boasting the league’s best defensive record after conceding just five goals all season.
But the build-up to the derby has been overshadowed by a fresh setback for one of Arteta’s most important players.
Gabriel limps off at the Emirates during Brazil friendly
Gabriel started for Brazil in their 2–0 win over Senegal — a match played at the Emirates — but pulled up in clear discomfort midway through the second half. The defender immediately clutched the top of his right leg, raising fears of a groin injury.
After receiving extended treatment on the pitch, he was substituted for Wesley and hobbled slowly to the bench, visibly struggling as he left the field.
Arsenal will now await a full assessment of the injury after he returns from international duty.
Huge concern for Arteta
The 27-year-old has been a cornerstone of Arsenal’s success this season, forming a dominant centre-back partnership with William Saliba. Their consistency and chemistry have provided the foundation for the Gunners’ title charge — making Gabriel’s potential absence one of the worst-timed blows ahead of the derby.
Compounding the concern, Riccardo Calafiori was released from Italy’s squad earlier this week due to injury fears, further disrupting Arteta’s defensive depth.
Brazil secure victory — and positives elsewhere in the Premier League
While Gabriel’s exit dampened the mood for Arsenal supporters, the match brought encouraging moments for others in the Premier League. Chelsea star Estevão opened the scoring with a precise finish, while Manchester United midfielder Casemiro added a second as Brazil secured a comfortable 2–0 win.
