Barcelona on Track to Set New UCL Revenue Benchmark After Reaching Semi-Finals
FC Barcelona has made a significant comeback by reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2018-19 season, having defeated Borussia Dortmund with a 5-3 aggregate score. This achievement not only enhances the club’s prestige but also keeps their hopes of winning a treble alive.
The financial benefits from this advancement are substantial for the Catalan club. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is set to earn €15 million just for reaching this stage of the competition, bringing their total earnings this season to €116.563 million. This amount is only slightly less than the €117.730 million they secured when they reached the semi-finals in 2019.
Barcelona has also gained an additional €7 million for outperforming expectations in the group stage. Even if they don’t reach the finals, they are on track to surpass their previous revenue record from the Champions League, thanks to an increase in their market pool. The club has already earned €22.44 million from the current edition, and this figure is expected to rise once all calculations are finalized at the end of the season.
In terms of coefficients, Barcelona entered this season’s campaign with a fixed fee of €11.41 million, ranking just behind Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City in that regard. FC Barcelona earnings could increase further, as UEFA offers €18.5 million for each finalist, €6.5 million for the winner, €4 million for the UEFA Super Cup contestants, and €1 million for the Super Cup winner.
Given their financial challenges in recent years, Barcelona is keen to make the most of their Champions League run and push as far as possible in the competition.
UEFA Champions League is very important for the club, as it presents a valuable opportunity to address its financial challenges.
