Benjamin Sesko Emerges as Newcastle United £66m Striker Option

Newcastle United reportedly admire Benjamin Sesko as a potential alternative to Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. A deal for the Frenchman now seems unlikely, especially with Liverpool’s interest heating up. The Magpies recently saw a £70 million bid rejected, which has sparked a transfer standoff involving Alexander Isak.

Despite Liverpool’s inquiry, Isak is not up for sale. Newcastle continued discussions with Frankfurt for Ekitike until the Reds emerged as the preferred option. If Ekitike chooses Anfield, it would mark the third time the 23-year-old has turned down a move to St James’ Park.

Furthermore, the African Cup of Nations may keep Wissa out of action for more than a month, and Brentford appears reluctant to lose both him and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, particularly as Mbeumo is rumoured to be wanted by Manchester United for almost £70 million.

As for Benjamin Sesko as an alternative to Ekitike, TalkSPORT reports that Newcastle is considering the RB Leipzig forward as a backup. Sesko’s name has been linked to several Premier League sides, including Arsenal, in recent years. The 22-year-old scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season. Standing at 6ft 5in, he offers a different dynamic alongside Isak.

Leipzig reportedly has a release clause set at £66 million, less than the bid made for Ekitike. Arsenal appears to be shifting their focus toward Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, removing them from the Sesko race.

Regarding Benjamin Sesko future, his agent, Elvis Basanovic, hinted that a move to a “special club” this summer is possible, disregarding comparisons to Gyokeres. He stated, “Sesko or Gyokeres to Arsenal? Sesko is not competing with anyone. We have a clear plan for the future, and media speculation doesn’t sway us. Sesko is more than just a striker; he is a special striker. He will only depart Leipzig when we find a special club, a special project, and a special coach.”
