Brewers’ Unprecedented Winning Run Marks Historic Moment After Ten Years

The Milwaukee Brewers continued their impressive performance this season by demolishing the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-0 on Tuesday night, extending their winning streak to an astonishing 11 games. With this victory, the Brewers now hold the best record in Major League Baseball at 75-44, sitting a remarkable 31 games above .500.

This victory was also historical for the Brewers, as they’ve achieved something that hasn’t happened within the last ten years of baseball history. They became the 13th team within the 1900 time frame who was able to experience two winning streaks of 11 plus games within just one season. Here, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, is that list of teams who’ve achieved this feat:

  • 2015 Toronto Blue Jays
  • 1954 Cleveland Indians
  • 1935 Chicago Cubs
  • 1931 Philadelphia Athletics
  • 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates
  • 1926 Yankees of New York
  • 1916 Giants de Nueva York
  • 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates
  • 1906 Chicago Cubs
  • 1906 Highlanders (present-day New York Yankees)
  • 1904 New York Giants
  • 1903 Pittsburgh Pirates

Not only did the Brewers win, but they roughed up National League Cy Young candidate Paul Skenes, taking him out after just four innings. Skenes gave up four earned runs on six hits, walked two batters, and struck out four. His ERA on the season is now 2.13 after he fell to 7-9.

Milwaukee’s offense was firing on all cylinders, scoring once in six different innings, and racking up 15 hits in the game. Multi-hit games were registered by Sal Frelick, William Contreras, Christian Yelich, and Joey Ortiz. Others who batted deep for home runs were Frelick, Andrew Vaughn, Yelich, Brice Turang, and Caleb Durbin.

On the mound, Freddy Peralta pitched a gem, working six scoreless innings and giving up only three hits. He issued a walk to one batter and collected seven punchouts, taking his mark to 14-5 with a 2.90 ERA.

Those two squads are slated to complete their series on Wednesday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. ET. Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff, who is 4-0 with a 2.29 ERA, will take on the Pirates’ Mitch Keller.
