Arsenal star Bukayo Saka was not in the mood for conversation at the Spanish Grand Prix. The talented winger was on the grid before the race, joined by the rest of the England squad, who were set to travel to Andorra on June 6 for a crucial World Cup qualifier.
With gridwalk icon Martin Brundle absent in Catalunya, Sky presenter Simon Lazenby teamed up with 2016 Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg to gather some interviews. When they stumbled upon the entire England team at the start-finish line, they likely thought they had struck gold.
They first spoke with captain and recent Bundesliga champion Harry Kane before Lazenby spotted Bukayo Saka. However, the Gunners’ talisman was not interested in chatting, simply responding, “I don’t like to say.” When asked who he was supporting, Bukayo Saka repeated, “I don’t like to say,” while shaking his head. Rosberg commented on the situation saying, “He’s not very friendly,” before moving on to Newcastle favorite Dan Burn, who was much more open.Burn disagreed with Lazenby when asked if the upcoming match against Andorra would be a ‘formality.’ Kane initiated the conversation, stating, “I’m good, I’m hot, but looking forward to the race, it’s my first one. I watch it as much as I can, and with a few of the English guys doing well, I’m excited to see it.”
Rosberg then chimed in, telling the striker: “Harry, I’m a huge Bayern Munich fan, that’s my team, so thanks for all your efforts. But who are you rooting for today?” Kane replied enthusiastically, “That’s perfect! I love Lando [Norris], he’s been doing great and has a strong chance to win the championship, so I’m hoping he can get himself in front today.”
Rosberg followed up by asking if Kane had any advice for Norris, who’d been feeling a bit “mentally shaky.” Kane replied, “For him, it’s all about preparation. I’m sure he’s prepared to the best of his ability. Then it’s just about going out there and playing freely; he knows he can do it, he’s won enough already.”
2024 runner-up Norris kicked off the season as the title favorite for McLaren and solidified that status with a commanding win in Australia. However, Max Verstappen won two of the next six Grands Prix, while Oscar Piastri, his teammate, won four. However, in a significant turn of events this past May, he broke free from that frustrating cycle when he and his team, Bayern Munich, under the leadership of Nico Rosberg, triumphed in the Bundesliga. This victory not only marked a pivotal moment in Kane’s career but also served as a testament to his perseverance and determination to succeed at the highest level.
