Chris Wood Eases Attacking Worries as Forest Dominate Brentford

Keith Andrews’ first game as Brentford head coach was a harsh reality check. Nottingham Forest, led by the ever-demanding Chris Wood, Nuno Espírito Santo, delivered a statement performance in a 3-1 win that was effectively sealed before halftime.

Chris Wood struck twice, and debutant Dan Ndoye added a third, leaving Brentford reeling. Igor Thiago’s late penalty offered little consolation in a match where Forest’s dominance was never in doubt.

Andrews admitted the opening 45 minutes were a steep learning curve. “Very disappointing in terms of your preparation,” he said. “Unless you do the basics, you don’t give yourself an opportunity to play the game you want.”

Forest, who had struggled for goals in pre-season, wasted no time. Chris Wood capitalized on a loose ball from a corner after just five minutes. Despite Nuno’s frustrations over transfer activity, Forest looked sharp, with new signings Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee unveiled before kick-off and Arnaud Kalimuendo potentially on the way.

Brentford, missing key forwards Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, lacked attacking threat and sat too deep. Andrews’ side failed to impose any clear tactical identity, and Forest took full advantage. Morgan Gibbs-White orchestrated play with freedom, drifting into dangerous areas and setting up Ndoye’s headed goal with a pinpoint cross.

Chris Wood second came in first-half stoppage time, rounding debutant keeper Caoimhín Kelleher after a slick through-ball from Elliot Anderson. The striker’s movement and finishing reminded fans why he netted 20 goals last season.

Nuno praised his side’s fast start and control. “I just want to go home and celebrate,” he said. “It’s a beautiful start.”

The second half slowed, with Forest easing off and Andrews left to reflect. Jordan Henderson made his debut from the bench, and his leadership will be crucial as Brentford navigate a tough transition.

Forest, meanwhile, look ready for the challenges ahead—including Europa League football. Nuno’s tactical tweaks and squad depth suggest they’re building something serious.
