Crystal Palace Secure Back-to-Back Wembley Titles with Shield Win Over Liverpool

Crystal Palace have written a new chapter in their history books, winning the FA Community Shield for the first time with a dramatic triumph over Liverpool at Wembley — the latest prize in what has become a golden spell under Oliver Glasner.

Fresh from lifting the FA Cup in May, the Eagles returned to the national stadium full of confidence, and they needed every bit of it in a breathless battle with the reigning Premier League champions. Liverpool’s new signings Hugo Ekitiké and Jeremie Frimpong twice put the Reds in front, but Crystal Palace refused to roll over. Jean-Philippe Mateta coolly levelled from the penalty spot after a foul in the box, before Ismaïla Sarr brought the game back to life again with a stunning strike that sent the Palace fans into raptures.

The 90 minutes ended 2-2, setting up a nerve-shredding penalty shootout. Mohamed Salah blinked first, firing wide, and that opened the door for Palace. Dean Henderson, calm and commanding, then denied both Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, turning the tide firmly in the Eagles’ favour.

Mateta and Sarr made no mistake from the spot, and when 20-year-old Justin Devenny buried his penalty, the stadium erupted. Palace had done it — after 120 years, they were Community Shield winners.

But this was more than just a trophy. It was a statement. It showed how far the club has come, how hungry they are, and how much belief runs through every player, coach, and supporter. This moment will always be a part of Crystal Palace legend.

The celebrations may last for days, but the focus will soon shift to the season ahead. With momentum on their side and silverware already in their hands, Glasner’s Crystal Palace are no longer plucky outsiders. They are a team with ambition, confidence — and an appetite for more glory.
