And the club has now appointed Lennon as their new gaffer as he returns for his second spell at New Broomfield.
Lanarkshire Live Sport can also reveal that former Airdrie ace Charlie Telfer will become Lennon’s first signing as Diamonds manager, with the midfielder returning from Hamilton Accies as a trialist this month.
His first match in charge will arrive this Saturday on the road at Arbroath, after Aaron Taylor-Sinclair filled the role on an interim basis for last Saturday’s home draw with Queen’s Park, 1-1.

A spokesperson for the club said: “We are delighted to confirm that Danny Lennon has been appointed Airdrieonians manager.
“Having worked at all four senior league grades, Danny has great experience in managing football in Scotland, and the track record of successes to back it up.”

“A spell as acting first team manager at Airdrie United FC in 2016, which means that at the age of 56, the experienced gaffer has knowledge of the club and is pleased as punch to see him return to the Albert Bartlett Stadium. “A gifted midfielder, Danny started at Hibernian, but it would be for his periods at Raith Rovers and at Partick Thistle he would probably best be remembered – a goal for the Kirkcaldy outfit away at German giants Bayer Munich being a particularly brilliant moment of Danny’s playing career. “In his first foray into management with Cowdenbeath in 2008, Danny made an immediate impact, taking successive promotions with the Blue Brazil him working on humble means, and earning himself a transfer away from the Fife side to top-flight side St Mirren. “Danny’s successes persisted at Paisley, leading the Buddies to their first League Cup as winners in 2013. “After also being caretaker manager of the Scottish U21s, Danny took the reins at Alloa Athletic, claiming the Championship play-offs for the year 2014/15. “Danny subsequently spent time at Airdrie, taking the reins on loan after head coach Eddie Wolecki-Black had suffered a stroke. Failing to reach the top four by only one point, Danny left and spent the subsequent five years at Clyde, leading the Bully Wee to promotion in 2019. “Since departing Clyde in October 2022, Danny has been employed with the Scottish Football Association and has coached in Malaysia, and now returns with his incredible experience back to Scotland as the new Airdrieonians manager. “Everyone at the club is delighted to appoint Danny as the winning candidate from our recent quest for a new manager, and he will definitely continue crafting success at Lanarkshire. Welcome to the Diamonds, Danny!”
