David Beckham Secures Knighthood After Heartfelt Newcastle United Tribute

David Beckham looks set to be knighted in the King’s Birthday Honours. The England legend had been overlooked for years, but reports now suggest he is to receive the honour next week.

This recognition should please Newcastle United fans as Beckham has admitted to having a soft spot for the club, praising the Magpies after their Carabao Cup victory. After Newcastle United triumphed over Liverpool at Wembley Stadium, securing their first major trophy since 1969, David Beckham took to Instagram to congratulate the team and its fervent fan base. He expressed admiration for the supporters, referring to them as “some of the best and most loyal.”

In his heartfelt post, David Beckham wrote: “What an incredible moment today for Newcastle United, a club that boasts some of the most dedicated and passionate supporters in the game. Your unwavering loyalty has shone brightly through the years. Congratulations to all the Geordies on this well-deserved victory! [white and black heart emoji] @nufc.”

Speaking to Classic Football Shirts in November 2023, David Beckham shared his fondness for Newcastle since his youth. “I’ve always loved Newcastle as a club, I love the fans, I love the way they are. We played up in Newcastle for England and they were amazing.”

At 50 years old and having stepped away from professional football, David Beckham has been absent from the honours roll for quite some time. In 2013, leaked emails revealed his frustration with the Honours Committee after being overlooked again, reportedly referring to them as “unappreciative c—s.”

Following his encounter with King Charles and Queen Camilla at last month’s prestigious Chelsea Flower Show, a significant moment occurred when King Charles turned to David Beckham and remarked, “You got it, didn’t you?” This interaction has seemingly propelled Beckham’s long-held aspirations of being honored with a knighthood into the spotlight.

David Beckham was initially nominated for a knighthood in 2011 after his role in securing the London 2012 Olympics but was denied by the Honours Committee due to being involved in a tax avoidance controversy. He capped off his career with 115 appearances for England and stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and AC Milan.
