Inter Milan Call Up Two Youth Goalkeepers Ahead of Fiorentina Showdown

Inter boss Cristian Chivu has been forced into an emergency reshuffle ahead of Wednesday night’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina, as first-choice goalkeeper Yann Sommer is the only senior stopper available for selection.

The Nerazzurri have been hit by a double blow in the goalkeeping department, leaving Chivu with no choice but to turn to the club’s youth ranks for backup options.

Double Absence Leaves Inter Short-Handed

Inter’s usual reserve goalkeeper, Raffaele Di Gennaro, remains sidelined with a fractured wrist — an injury that has already kept him out for several weeks and is expected to rule him out until mid-November at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Josep Martínez, the club’s new No. 2, is unavailable on compassionate grounds after being involved in a tragic road traffic collision on Tuesday that resulted in the death of an 81-year-old man. The Spaniard, who joined Inter from Genoa in the summer, is not expected to return to training until next week at the earliest as he recovers from the incident.

The unfortunate circumstances have left Sommer as the only senior goalkeeper fit and available for the midweek fixture at San Siro, forcing Chivu to call upon the next generation of Inter talent.

Calligaris and Taho Step Up

Stepping into the matchday squad are Alessandro Calligaris and Alain Taho, two young goalkeepers who have impressed in the club’s youth setup.

Calligaris, 20, has already been named in the last two Serie A squads following Di Gennaro’s injury and is currently the first-choice goalkeeper for Inter’s U23 side competing in Serie C. Calm and composed with the ball at his feet, he is highly regarded within the club and seen as one of the more promising shot-stoppers in the system.

Joining him on the bench will be Alain Taho, an 18-year-old Albania youth international who features regularly for Inter’s Primavera side.
