Jorgen Strand Larsen Late Double Seals Wolves’ 3-2 Cup Thriller Over West Ham

Two goals in three minutes from Jorgen Strand Larsen completed a dramatic Wolves comeback as they beat West Ham 3-2 in the Carabao Cup second round at Molineux.

The Norwegian striker — heavily linked with a move to Newcastle — came off the bench to score twice in the final eight minutes, turning the tie on its head after the Hammers had looked in control.

Wolves strike first

Vítor Pereira, who made eight changes to his starting XI, saw his side go ahead just before the break. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was fouled by Guido Rodríguez in the box, giving Wolves a penalty. Hwang Hee-chan’s spot-kick hit the inside of the post, but Rodrigo Gomes reacted quickest to slam home the rebound in the 43rd minute.

West Ham almost levelled immediately, but Lucas Paquetá’s glancing header from a James Ward-Prowse cross drifted just wide.

Hammers fight back

David Moyes’ men responded strongly after the interval. Within five minutes, Tomáš Souček rose at the far post to nod in Kyle Walker-Peters’ curling delivery.

The turnaround was complete on 63 minutes when Jarrod Bowen whipped in a fierce ball from the right touchline, and Paquetá found himself unmarked to head past the exposed Sam Johnstone at the near post.

Jorgen Strand Larsen the hero

With Wolves trailing, Pereira turned to his bench, sending on fresh legs to spark a revival. The gamble paid off spectacularly.

In the 82nd minute, Hugo Bueno cut a ball back to André, whose low drive was blocked by Alphonse Areola. The rebound fell kindly for Strand Larsen, who rifled into the roof of the net.

Just three minutes later, Wolves completed the comeback. A neat one-two between Jhon Arias and Jorgen Strand Larsen saw Arias’ shot denied by Areola, but Jackson Tchatchoua recycled possession from the right and Jorgen Strand Larsen pounced again, powering home through a crowded box.

The double sent Molineux into raptures and secured Wolves a place in the next round, with their striker’s future still the subject of intense transfer speculation.
