Leeds United are reportedly nearing a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, who is expected at Thorp Arch for medical tests on Thursday, according to information from the YEP. Longstaff has been a focal point for a potential transfer to Elland Road throughout the summer, with the YEP highlighting last week that Leeds had seen three bids turned down by Newcastle. The previous offer consisted of £10 million upfront and an additional £2 million in performance-related add-ons, nearing the maximum amount Leeds management was willing to commit. However, a new agreement was reached shortly afterward.
Currently, it is understood that Leeds has finalized a deal valued at around £15 million, incorporating £12 million upfront for Newcastle and an additional £3 million contingent on specific performance-related criteria. A report from the Athletic suggested that personal terms have already been settled with Longstaff, and the 27-year-old is set to arrive in West Yorkshire within a day to complete the medical examination.
As of Wednesday morning, Longstaff was training with his Newcastle teammates in Austria, preparing for an upcoming friendly match against Celtic on Saturday. He contributed a goal in a recent 4-0 victory in a training fixture against Carlisle United and has remained actively involved in training, despite the swirling speculation about his future.
Longstaff will be flying back to the UK and is expected to report to Leeds’ Thorp Arch training ground on Thursday to undergo the necessary medical assessments before any official announcement. His new teammates will be in training nearby, gearing up for their weekend match against Manchester United in Stockholm.
If Longstaff’s transfer is confirmed before Saturday, he could potentially make his debut in that match. Given his active participation in Newcastle’s pre-season thus far, he should be fit and ready to go, making it a suitable occasion for him to settle into the squad.
In addition to Longstaff, four other new signings—Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, and Gabriel Gudmundsson—have already acclimated to life at Leeds. The club has shared videos of the group working alongside their new teammates since pre-season began last week.
Hoffenheim is believed to be seeking around £17 million plus add-ons for Stach, who is regarded as one of the top defensive midfielders in the Bundesliga. While other clubs have shown interest in the 26-year-old, the agreed personal terms indicate he may be keen on joining Farke’s side.
