Liverpool Bestows Legendary Tribute on Arne Slot Ahead of Anfield Transformation

Arne Slot’s face will be added to a legendary banner on the Kop next season to mark Liverpool’s Premier League title success. The Dutchman guided the Reds to a second league title in five years after taking over from Jurgen Klopp last summer, with the Reds clinching the championship with four games to go following a 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Liverpool will be presented with the Premier League trophy after their final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

In addition to celebrating the current Liverpool team’s triumph, this event will allow supporters to enjoy celebrations that were missed during the last league title success five years ago.

Following the official confirmation of their 20th league title, there will be a notable change to the Anfield decor next season. The Liverpool supporters’ group, the Irish Kop, will include Slot’s face on one of the Kop’s renowned banners ahead of the 2025/26 season.

This banner, featured since the 2009-10 campaign, depicts the faces of six iconic figures: Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Kenny Dalglish, Rafa Benitez, and Jurgen Klopp, all of whom have guided the side to either the league title or the European Cup during their employment.

While Klopp became only the fourth manager in Liverpool’s history to win the European Cup, there was some debate about whether Slot’s name should be on the banner so early in his career, despite the fact that he became only the second manager to win the Premier League. The last update to the six-meter-wide by three-meter-high graphic was made in the summer of 2019.

Slot is the sixth manager to appear on the banner, which will be updated over the off-season, according to Irish Kop founder Paul Larkin. “Some people think it’s too soon, but the criteria have always been that if you win the league or the European Cup, you go on it,” Larkin said in an interview with The Athletic.

“The majority who help out with the banner believe it should be updated, and I share that view. I’ve asked a graphic designer to create new designs. We’ll choose one and have a new version made in the United States in time for August. Slot deserves it.”

Liverpool will mark their Premier League title victory with a parade around the city on Bank Holiday Monday.
