Luciano Spalletti Returns to Club Football with Juventus Following Italy Exit

Luciano Spalletti has been tasked with restoring stability and pride at Juventus, with the club confirming that the veteran coach has been handed a contract until June 30, 2026. The 66-year-old’s immediate goal is clear — guide the Bianconeri back into next season’s Champions League.

Should Luciano Spalletti achieve that objective, Juve plan to extend his stay and give him time to rebuild the club into a genuine title contender once again.

A Proven Winner Returns to Club Football

Spalletti returns to Serie A management less than a year after his turbulent spell as Italy’s head coach. After a 33-year wait, the Tuscan tactician famously guided Napoli to their historic 2022–23 Scudetto, leaving his name etched in the club’s annals. His emotional bond with Naples was so deep that he tattooed the team’s crest on his arm and declared he would never manage another Italian club.

But Juventus’ call has proven too tempting to resist. Ironically, his return to club management falls on what would have been Diego Maradona’s 65th birthday — a poignant link to Napoli’s most celebrated era.

Last season’s interim boss Igor Tudor, who replaced Thiago Motta in March, failed to steady the ship and was dismissed following an eight-game winless run. Now, the Bianconeri hope Spalletti’s experience and leadership can restore belief to a fractured squad.

Financially, Juve are still feeling the effects of recent turmoil. The club posted €58 million in losses last season, while former chairman Andrea Agnelli faces ongoing legal and disciplinary consequences following the 2022 financial scandal that resulted in a 10-point deduction.

A Crucial Start Ahead

Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Udinese was Juventus’ first since mid-September, lifting them to seventh place — six points behind leaders Napoli and Roma.

Spalletti’s debut comes this weekend away to Cremonese, last season’s Serie B surprise package who sit just one point behind Italy’s most successful club after nine matches.

The task is formidable, but if anyone can spark a revival in Turin, it’s Luciano Spalletti — a man whose career has been defined by defying expectations.
