Man Utd, Liverpool Among 80 English Clubs to Receive Massive Cash Boost

UEFA has provided a significant financial boost to more than 900 clubs across Europe, thanks to the commercial revenues from Euro 2024. This distribution has especially benefited 80 teams in England, with Manchester City being the largest recipient. In total, £200 million has been allocated through this initiative, which is shared among 901 clubs belonging to the 55 national football associations in Europe.

The goal of this program is to provide rewards to clubs that permit their players to take part in national team competitions, such as the Nations League, European Qualifiers, and Euro 2024. This year, a record number of clubs are benefiting from these funds, with the overall budget seeing an increase of £28 million compared to the last cycle.

It’s quite fascinating to see how this initiative has benefited teams beyond just the top Premier League clubs. For example, Yorkshire Amateur, which plays in the tenth tier, was allocated £6,000 in financial support. This funding results from an agreement between UEFA and the European Club Association, which guarantees that clubs are compensated for every player they let go for international duty.

The distribution of funds includes a fixed compensation per player for days spent training during Euro 2024, adjusted according to FIFA’s classification for training compensation. The program is primarily funded by commercial revenues from the tournament, won by Spain.

Out of the total funding, £120 million is specifically reserved for Euro 2024, while around £80 million is earmarked for the player releases linked to the Nations League and European Qualifier matches, with a compensation fee of approximately £3,128 per player for each appearance.

Manchester City emerged as the top beneficiary, receiving just over £4 million. Their rivals, Manchester United, followed with £2.7 million, and Liverpool received £3.1 million. Arsenal was awarded £3.3 million, making them the second-largest recipient after City. Clubs from non-league tiers, such as Havant & Waterlooville and others, also benefited from this initiative.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin expressed his enthusiasm for the program, emphasizing the importance of recognizing clubs of all sizes for their contribution to player development. He stated, “It is fantastic to see clubs of all sizes and levels… receiving financial rewards for their vital role in developing players.”

ECA chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi echoed this sentiment, highlighting the success of the program and its significance as a foundational aspect of the agreement between UEFA and its member clubs.
