Manchester United Eye €40m La Liga Midfield Star in Surprise Move

Manchester United are seeking a midfielder this summer, and may look towards La Liga to meet that requirement. Brighton and Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba has been heavily linked with the Red Devils, but they might be priced out of a transfer.

Ruben Amorim looks keen on signing a player who can bridge the midfield, and Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume has emerged as a surprising candidate. Agoume arrived from Inter 18 months ago on a loan, and he started Matias Almeyda’s first match on Sunday, scoring a brilliant goal in their 3-2 defeat by Athletic Club.

Manchester United renew interest in Agoume

Caught Offside stated back in January that United had had a keen interest in Agoume, but the trail went quite quiet afterwards. Yet *Orgullo Biri* report that United are once again considering Agoume for a potential move during the summer. Sevilla spent €8m last summer to make permanent the loan move, and spent a further 40% of his rights on him during this campaign, meaning Inter are only left with a 10% sell-on fee. That interest has had corroboration from *365 scores* in Saudi. Even if they do say no negotiations are in force.

How much are they willing to spend?

As we pointed out last January, Agoume has a €40m release clause, and Sevilla Sporting Director Antonio Cordon re-iterated all week the 23-year-old’s value is this figure. Whereas Manchester United are resolute in presenting a bid of between €25-30m for the Frenchman.

Under the radar at Sevilla

Agoume has had a low-key spell at Sevilla, in part due to the unstable atmosphere in their midfield. Nonetheless, he has had glimpses of what a class player he can be. He’s solid on the ball, proficient at retrieving possession, and possesses the ability to swiftly distribute the ball to craftier team-mates. Although he possesses the attributes of a holding midfielder, we haven’t seen him demonstrate them reliably.
