Mbeumo Joins Man United in £71m Deal After Brentford Saga

Manchester United are reportedly displeased with Brentford despite finally securing the signing of Bryan Mbeumo in a £71million deal after weeks of negotiations.

United will pay a fixed fee of £65m with the potential for an additional £6m in add-ons. Mbeumo has committed to a five-year contract, with the option for an extra year. The 25-year-old forward from Cameroon is now set to join United’s pre-season tour in the US. He expressed his excitement, saying, “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up.”

United successfully fended off interest from competition such as Tottenham, Arsenal, and Newcastle due to Mbeumo’s eagerness to join Old Trafford. However, the club is reportedly frustrated with Brentford for prolonging negotiations by raising their asking price to £77 million and pressuring Mbeumo to accept lower wages in order to finalize a move to United, or consider the possibility of joining Spurs instead.

In contrast, Brentford has expressed their anger regarding what they perceived as low opening offers from United—£55m and £62.5m—which were significantly less than Tottenham’s bid, alongside the attention Mbeumo received for better personal terms from Spurs.

Regardless of the tension, United is reportedly thrilled to have secured their second major transfer target of the summer, following the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m. Sources indicate that this demonstrates the effectiveness of the club’s football-first policy and its ability to attract high-profile players.

Mbeumo reiterated his ambition, stating, “My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players. Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans; we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.”

Bryan’s belief in our project and determination to join the club confirmed that he was the perfect fit for Manchester United and the culture that we are developing. We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour. The experience in the US will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new teammates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.”
