Mohamed Salah has reached an amazing milestone yet again! He’s been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for the 2024-25 season, marking the third time he’s won this honor. This achievement sets a new record, which is a testament to his incredible skill and influence in the sport.
This season, Salah has truly been exceptional. He garnered an impressive 90% of the votes, leaving legendary players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry in his wake. Scoring 33 goals and providing 23 assists in total—28 of those goals coming from the Premier League—he’s been a key player in helping Liverpool clinch their 20th top-flight title under the new management of Arne Slot.

This award isn’t new territory for Salah; he previously claimed it in the 2017-18 and 2021-22 seasons. Now, he stands alongside Thierry Henry as the only player to win it three times. His teammate, Virgil van Dijk, came in a close second, followed by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who contributed significantly to the Magpies ending a 56-year trophy drought.
This season’s competition has been incredibly intense! I was impressed by Declan Rice from Arsenal; he showcased his talent and ended up finishing fourth. His performances in both the Premier League and the Champions League were truly outstanding. It’s amazing to see so many players stepping up, too—15 others received votes as well, which highlights how competitive this season has been!

Last season, Phil Foden stood out and earned accolades for his vital contributions to Manchester City’s triumphs. However, this season, all eyes are on Salah. With an impressive 97 individual awards to his name from both his club and national team, he’s truly making a significant impact in the world of football.

What’s even more special is that he remains the only African player to win the FWA Footballer of the Year award, making his victory even more historic. Liverpool players have now won this award 16 times, more than any other club, followed by Tottenham and Manchester United, who are both at nine.
