Premier League Scenarios: Liverpool’s Title Hopes and Relegation Drama Unfold This Weekend

Posted on

Liverpool is on the verge of clinching the Premier League title, having established a significant 13-point lead over Arsenal. They could even secure the championship as soon as this weekend. The Reds are gearing up to face Leicester at the King Power Stadium, and with the way the season has unfolded, it feels like a championship victory is just around the corner.

Liverpool has had an impressive season so far, with 23 wins, seven draws, and just two losses. A big part of their success comes from Mohamed Salah, who has scored an amazing 32 goals. Plus, both Salah and Virgil van Dijk just signed new contracts, which is a great sign for the team’s future..

Liverpool aims to wrap up the title as quickly as possible, with the potential to do so this weekend. However, it hinges on a bit of luck from Ipswich. Liverpool only needs a maximum of six points from their last six matches to secure their position at the top. If they manage to beat Leicester on Sunday and Arsenal loses to Ipswich earlier in the day, then Liverpool will officially be crowned Premier League champions. In that scenario, Liverpool would reach 79 points, making it mathematically impossible for Arsenal to catch them with just five games left.

If Arsenal manages to win against Ipswich and Liverpool secures a victory over Leicester, the title could still be within reach for Liverpool. They would require Arsenal to lose at home to Crystal Palace midweek. If Arsenal does avoid defeat, Liverpool can seal the title with a win against Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.

On another note, the relegation battle is heating up. Southampton has already been confirmed as relegated, and Leicester is dangling precariously close to joining them. For Leicester, they must beat Liverpool this weekend or face certain relegation—simply getting a draw won’t suffice.

Ipswich also finds itself in a precarious position and could be relegated alongside Leicester, depending on the outcomes of matches around them. Currently, they are 14 points shy of West Ham and Wolves ahead of their clash with Arsenal. If both West Ham, facing Southampton, and Wolves, going against Manchester United, win their matches, Ipswich will be relegated regardless of their performance. Conversely, if one or both lose, Ipswich will have another chance to fight, although their poor goal difference means that a dire outcome could still seal their fate.
