Romano Clarifies Transfer Buzz Around £437m Barcelona Talent

According to Fabrizio Romano, there is “nothing concrete” in the recent reports suggesting that Fermin Lopez could join Manchester United.

Man United’s primary focus remains on improving from what was their worst-ever Premier League season, both in terms of points return and league position. Despite the absence of European football this season, the Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both of whom had impressive performances during the 2024/25 campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s side is also showing interest in Benjamin Sesko, who Newcastle United is also keen on as the Portuguese prepares for his first full season in charge. While pre-season results have been encouraging, the Red Devils are expected to further strengthen their squad in the market before the transfer deadline.

Romano has addressed recent reports indicating that Manchester United may be looking to sign Fermin Lopez from Barcelona. He stated that the rumors lack substance.

“Barca Don’t Want To Sell”

Romano refutes the rumors

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano clarified that there is little truth to the idea of a potential deal for Lopez. He remarked, “At the moment, I’m told that there is nothing concrete in it. Furthermore, Barcelona don’t want to sell Fermin Lopez. Any possibility for him to leave this month depends solely on the player approaching Barca’s director Deco and coach Hansi Flick and expressing his desire to leave.”

A product of La Masia, Lopez made his debut for Barcelona in 2023 and had a standout season, earning a permanent spot in the first team under Hansi Flick while helping the club secure a domestic treble. Notably, any possibility of such a transfer hinges on Lopez’s willingness to actively seek a departure from Barcelona, a scenario that seems unlikely in the near term according to well-respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano. Until there are indications of his desire to leave, it is expected that he will remain focused on his progress with the Catalan club.
