Seattle Sounders vs Atletico Madrid – Free Club World Cup Action
The Seattle Sounders will meet Spanish giants Atlético Madrid in their second group stage game of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in Seattle on Thursday.
The Sounders fell 2-1 to Brazilian side Botafogo in their tournament opener on Sunday, going down 2-0 at halftime but fighting back in the second half and cutting the lead to just one goal with 15 minutes to play. Despite Seattle’s best efforts, Botafogo held on to take all three points in hostile territory. The Sounders are currently in sixth place in the MLS Western Conference standings, with 26 points through their first 18 games.
Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, had a forgettable start to their Club World Cup campaign, losing 4-0 to Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in California on Sunday.

Atleti players admitted to struggling with the heat, with temperatures reaching as high as 40°C (104°F) and 60 percent humidity. “We are adapting to the heat of playing at this time. No European team is used to competing with such high temperatures,” Atletico midfielder Marcos Llorente said after the game. “The match was clearly influenced by the temperature. The time slot is great for European audiences, but the teams are suffering.

Atlético Madrid Predicted Lineup vs Seattle Sounders
Simeone’s starting lineup will look a little different for Thursday’s trip to Seattle, starting with the backline. Clement Lenglet was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the latter stages of the loss to PSG, meaning he’ll be serving a one-game suspension. Jose Maria Gimenez should be called upon to replace him at center-back alongside Robin Le Normand.
Marcos Llorente can also be replaced in the starting 11 after struggling on Sunday, making way for Argentina international Nahuel Molina at right-back. Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez are expected to start as a strike partnership up front.
Atlético Madrid predicted lineup (4-4-2): Jan Oblak (GK) – Nahuel Molina, Robin Le Normand, Jose Maria Gimenez, Javi Galan – Giuliano Simeone, Rodrigo De Paul, Koke, Conor Gallagher – Antoine Griezmann, Julian Alvarez.
Seattle Sounders Predicted Lineup vs Atlético Madrid
It’s unlikely Sounders manager Brian Schmetzer will make any changes to his lineup ahead of Thursday’s clash with Atleti. Jordan Morris returned to the squad last game but was an unused substitute. He is unlikely to start on Thursday but could play a part in the second half if Seattle needs a goal. Danny Musovski has deputized at striker in Morris’ absence.
Cristian Roldan is expected to start in a midfield duo alongside promising youngster Obed Vargas, while his brother Alex will likely assume his regular spot at left-back. Liverpool product Ryan Kent, having arrived over the winter, is expected to start and provide his blistering pace to the Sounders’ attack.
Seattle Sounders predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Stefan Frei (GK) – Alex Roldan, Kee-Hee Kim, Jackson Ragen, Nouhou Tolo – Obed Vargas, Cristian Roldan – Jesus Ferreira, Albert Rusnak, Ryan Kent – Danny Musovski.
