Manchester United’s traveling squad for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur has received a significant boost with the return of Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot, and Joshua Zirkzee. The trio were back in full training at United’s Carrington training base on Tuesday morning, lifting the spirits of manager Ruben Amorim ahead of the showdown in Bilbao.
Particularly encouraging for United is Zirkzee’s availability, as the forward made a quicker-than-expected recovery from an injury that had initially been feared to be season-ending. Yoro and Dalot are also in contention for starting spots at the Estadio de San Mames on Wednesday after participating in the final pre-match training session.
Matthijs de Ligt, however, will not be joining his teammates for the upcoming journey. According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, the center-back, who suffered an injury during the intense match against Brentford on May 4, has been spotted engaging in light individual training sessions at Carrington on Tuesday. This suggests that while he is making progress in his recovery, he is not yet fit enough to participate in team activities or match play. Fans and the coaching staff will be hoping for a swift recovery, as de Ligt is a crucial player for the squad.
Aside from De Ligt, Amorim has a fully fit squad at his disposal for the final—a welcome change for the United boss who, similarly to Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou, has been grappling with a lengthy injury list throughout the season.
While Tottenham traveled to the Basque Country on Monday evening, United opted to stick to their usual routine of training at Carrington before their European away fixtures.
James Maddison is part of Spurs’ traveling squad, although his fitness for the match remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Postecoglou confirmed that Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall will not be available for the final, stating in a media update on Tuesday, “Team news is pretty much the same as last week. No Lucas isn’t available. Pretty much the same as we were as of last week.”
