Viktor Gyokeres Poised to Join Arsenal in Summer Move

Posted on

Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as a key target for Arsenal this summer, alongside Benjamin Sesko, as the club searches for a new striker. According to transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, it seems likely that Gyokeres will be joining Arsenal during the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal has been on the lookout for a centre-forward and is interested in players like Gyokeres and Sesko from RB Leipzig. At one point, it seemed like they had a verbal agreement to sign Sesko, but things have gotten complicated lately. The main sticking point appears to be Sesko’s wage demands, creating some uncertainty about whether the transfer will happen.

The situation with Gyokeres has also been quite complex. While there were some claims of a gentleman’s agreement for a lower transfer fee, the president of Sporting CP, Federico Varandas, dismissed those reports. Furthermore, there are suggestions that Gyokeres has indicated he doesn’t intend to play for Sporting again, which could be a tactic to facilitate a transfer.

As Arsenal’s main focus in this transfer window is bringing in a striker, they are also looking to secure a backup goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, and a winger. The debate continues over whether Arsenal will ultimately sign Sesko or Gyokeres, yet clarity has been elusive.

Di Marzio has recently stirred things up by stating that Arsenal intends to sign Gyokeres, who is eager to make the move. He mentioned that Gyokeres has been Arsenal’s primary target from the beginning and that the club now needs to reach an agreement with Sporting.

Gustavo Gyokeres had an incredible season with Sporting CP, scoring 54 goals in the 2024/25 season after already impressing with 43 goals the year before. With a hefty release clause of £85 million, he’s made a name for himself as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.
