Real Madrid completed their preseason schedule in dominating fashion with a 4-0 triumph against WSG Tirol of Austria, revealing a mix of experience Alaba & Militão , returnees, and debutants on the first team stage. In the aftermath of this match, a number of players stopped to converse with Real Madrid TV.
Militão: “A lindo chute”
The Brazilian centre back got the scoring underway with a perfectly timed header and was grinning after the match.
“It was a great shot. What is being asked of us by the coach is falling into place already. As time goes on in the season, we shall only be better.”
Speaking about his recovery process, Militão said:
“I am contributing to the team through something that is dear to my heart. It was awhile in the makin’, but now is that time. Best thing is being back and available to the manager. I’m always ready to give my all when my time is up.”
As La Liga approaches, he was completely positive about the team being ready:
“The team is going to be in fantastic shape. We’ve got a good, grueling preseason. Everyone is optimistic. We know it’s a long haul of a season, but we are ready for that.”
Alaba: “I am feeling very strong
David Alaba was back in action in his fatherland, basking in the electric atmosphere in Innsbruck:
“I am fine, that you can see. It is my country, and it was a wonderful atmosphere. I am much better, nearly 100%. I am very strong and fully ready.”
Alaba also talked about his latest role in midfield:
“It’s different, that’s clear. It’s not my primary position, but I’m getting used to it.”
Looking ahead to the opener of the league, he remained positive:
“We’re fine. We’ve got a week before the first game. We’re ready.”
Lyon Debut for Thiago and Roberto Martín
Two youth team representatives, Roberto Martín (U19 A) and Thiago (U19 B), were sent in from the 83rd minute for Arda Güler and Kylian Mbappé, respectively.
Thiago, who came to join the team in 2023, recounted the experience with pride:
“It’s an honour to play wearing this jersey and make my debut. It’s exactly what you dream about when you are a kid, and it is a dream playing for the world’s leading club. Not much more to add.”
He also said that it was surreal being introduced to manager Xabi Alonso:
“He just said, ‘Enjoy yourselves, do whatever you know how to do.’ It’s exciting speaking to Xabi Alonso, who was an elite player. We would watch him on TV as youngsters, and now he’s standing in front of us, which is an actual privilege.”
Speaking about his style of play, Thiago said:
“I’m very intense, I have a lot of drive and attitude, and I cover a lot of ground on the field, along with my technical skills.”
For Roberto Martín, who joined Madrid’s youth ranks in 2020 and celebrated his 19th birthday playing his first match, everything was overwhelming:
“I haven’t got much to say about today. It’s an honour being down here and get to do something that we’ve always dreamed about as young lads. It was dreamlike when they said that I was being called down to the first team. No better present than coming on for the biggest club in history.”
He expressed how he was eager to play with some of the world’s best players:
“I do not know what to say. I’ve played out on the pitch with players who are world-class. We were out on it and didn’t think that this was real. It was insane, and I’m genuinely pleased.”
Describing his style of playing, Roberto said this:
“I always give my all. I give each ball my all. I try to achieve long shots, create room, and make the football spread out.”
