Fati Targets Career Reboot in Monaco After Barca Struggles
Fati has officially joined AS Monaco as the club’s third summer signing, following the acquisitions of England’s international defender Eric Dier and the celebrated 2018 French World Cup winner Paul Pogba, both of whom were brought in on free transfers. The club plans to introduce all three players to the media during a press conference scheduled for Thursday, marking a significant moment for Monaco’s ongoing summer strategy.
The 22-year-old forward, who rose through the ranks at FC Barcelona, completed his medical examination after both clubs reached an agreement for a season-long loan deal that includes an option for Monaco to purchase Fati at a fee of 11 million euros (approximately $13 million).
Born in Guinea Bissau, Fati made an incredible debut for Barcelona at the age of sixteen. During his tenure with the club, he made 123 appearances, scored 29 goals, and helped the team win two Spanish Copa del Rey cups and the Spanish league crowns in 2023 and 2025. He has also represented Spain at the international level, earning 11 caps and scoring two goals. Notably, he participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was part of the victorious squad that won the 2023 UEFA Nations League.
However, Fati had a particularly difficult season last year due to a string of injury setbacks that limited him to just 11 appearances and made it difficult for him to score. He also fell short of expectations during his brief loan with Brighton in the Premier League during the 2023–2024 season, scoring just four goals in 27 games across all competitions.
With a fresh start in the glamorous Principality, Fati intends to revive his career and display the talent that once made him one of Europe’s most promising young players. The way he adapts and succeeds in this new environment will be widely watched by both fans and analysts as he embarks on a new chapter in Monaco.
