Jamie Gittens to Chelsea: Club World Cup Involvement Unclear Post-Transfer

Posted on

After weeks of speculation, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jamie Gittens.
Jamie Gittens, a 20-year-old winger, has already made a name for himself in European football. Because of Gittens’ ability to provide speed, flare, and inventiveness to the team’s offensive play, Chelsea’s head coach Enzo Maresca made him the team’s top target for the left-wing position. The young talent is set to sign a seven-year contract, which reflects both Chelsea’s long-term vision and their commitment to nurturing his development.

As reported by football.London, Jamie Gittens will begin the medical assessment process with Chelsea while in the United States, where he is currently participating in the Club World Cup. This medical examination is scheduled for Saturday night, coinciding with Chelsea’s match against Benfica in the last 16 of the tournament. Interestingly, Gittens will be in the same vicinity as his soon-to-be Chelsea teammates as Dortmund has also reached the last 16 and is slated to face Monterrey in Atlanta on Tuesday evening.

However, Gittens’s scenario presents certain difficulties because of FIFA restrictions as stated in Article 24.8. Jamie Gittens cannot play for Chelsea in the tournament because he is already registered with Dortmund, as per the rule that states no player may be on the final squad list of more than one club competing in the competition. Thus, he will travel to the United States to join his new Chelsea colleagues, but he will not be permitted to play until the team as a whole returns to England for preseason training.

Jamie Gittens was a crucial component of Dortmund in 2024–25, scoring 12 goals and dishing out five assists. His outstanding performance, which showed that he was ready for the Premier League’s demands, attracted a lot of attention. As he prepares to begin this thrilling new chapter with the team, Gittens and Chelsea are both looking forward to what appears to be an incredible season.
