Javier Tebas shares some insights on Nico’s signing.
FC Barcelona is already taking steps to strengthen their squad in anticipation of the upcoming season, despite the highly anticipated 2025 summer transfer window being only a few weeks away. While focusing on pinpointing crucial areas for development, the club’s management is aggressively pursuing elite players to bolster their competitive advantage in both domestic and international competitions. With a mix of up-and-coming talent and seasoned pros on their radar, Barcelona hopes to assemble a well-rounded squad that can contend for major titles in the upcoming season.

For example, they are nearing the completion of the signing of RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, having already paid his release clause. Furthermore, it has been reported that they have pre-agreed to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams in order to bolster their left flank.

As Barcelona navigates these market activities, financial fair play (FFP) compliance continues to be a challenge. La Liga President Javier Tebas recently spoke to the media about this matter. In response to the topic of whether Barcelona could sign and register Nico Williams, he said: “Does Barça have the money to sign Nico and register him? I don’t know. But in the end, you hear so many names: Williams, this one, the guy with the motorbike… first, let’s make sure what needs to be registered is actually real, which I don’t know either.”

Javier Tebas further emphasized that Barcelona will need to take specific actions to register Joan Garcia:
“We’re not even at the right time yet, but we’ll see… Barça has to do a few things to be able to register him, not many, but they know what they are.”

As it stands, FC Barcelona is working towards returning to the 1:1 rule for the upcoming transfer window. These comments from Javier Tebas illustrate that the club still has some hurdles to overcome. However, Barcelona remains optimistic, as they have already submitted documentation regarding the construction of VIP boxes to the league authorities.
