Lamine Yamal Transfer Talk Resurfaces, PSG’s Position Revealed
Paris Saint-Germain are not expected to make a move for Lamine Yamal anytime soon, despite persistent transfer rumours linking the Barcelona wonderkid with a switch to the French capital.
Since making his senior debut for Barcelona in April 2023 at the age of 15, the 18-year-old has quickly emerged as one of the best football players in the world. As a seasoned Spain international and 2025 Ballon d’Or runner-up, Yamal’s quick ascent has naturally drawn interest from Europe’s top teams, with PSG frequently cited as one of his admirers.
However, according to multiple reports in France, including insight from reliable journalist Fabrice Hawkins, there is currently no genuine interest from the reigning European champions in pursuing a deal.
A shift in PSG’s transfer philosophy
Since the era of Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, and Lionel Messi, PSG have notably changed their recruitment strategy. Instead of building around global superstars, sporting director Luis Campos and manager Luis Enrique have prioritised developing a balanced squad focused on collective identity and long-term growth.
Signing Yamal, therefore, would represent a step back toward the club’s former star-driven model — something both Campos and Enrique appear reluctant to do.
“Going after Yamal would go against the project they’re putting in place,” Hawkins explained during an appearance on Aliotalk. “If PSG were to target him now, it would cost well over €200 million. At that price, considering their current squad, I just don’t see it happening.”
Barcelona previously rejected world-record bid
Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed in October 2024 that he turned down a staggering €250 million offer for Yamal shortly after the youngster helped Spain win the European Championship.
“A club came to sign Lamine Yamal for €250 million, and I said no,” Laporta told the club’s in-house media, without naming the bidder.
Soon after, Barça adviser Enric Masip claimed in an interview with El Chiringuito that the bid had come “from France,” sparking widespread speculation that PSG were behind the approach.
However, French outlet L’Équipe later reported that PSG categorically denied making any such offer.
For now, PSG’s focus appears to remain on stability rather than blockbuster signings, meaning any move for Lamine Yamal — one of football’s most valuable prospects — is off the table for the foreseeable future.
