Even after landing Florian Wirtz, Liverpool is still keen to buy Alexander Isak from Newcastle United this summer. Richard Hughes has had a strong start to the summer at Anfield, and the team may already be finalizing three big deals.
With the addition of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, joining Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool is aiming to elevate Arne Slot’s side next season. However, the club’s summer transfer activities might not be complete until they secure a new striker — one that can serve as an upgrade over Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
Despite spending significant funds elsewhere, Liverpool is still ‘dreaming’ of bringing in Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has provided the latest insights into Liverpool’s pursuit of a striker this summer.
Liverpool fans have been informed that a ‘really big name’ could still arrive, with Isak remaining at the top of their wishlist. Bailey mentioned: “Liverpool still want a striker – we previously revealed that Liverpool were anticipating a ‘huge summer,’ and that’s how things are shaping up.
They have already signed Frimpong and hope to shortly follow that with Kerkez and Wirtz in a British record deal – but they’re not finished yet. They want another central defender, but signing a striker is a priority, especially if, as expected, Nunez moves on; his representatives are currently in talks with various clubs.
Jota is another player who could depart, and those exits may clear the path for a new front-man. Isak is still a target; he is the dream signing at striker, and his contract situation is being monitored from Anfield.
Additionally, Liverpool is exploring other options, including Hugo Ekitike, while names like Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, and Viktor Gyokeres have also been mentioned. There are plenty of choices available for Liverpool — don’t be surprised if it ends up being a major signing.”
To support a potential bid for a striker, TBR Football has indicated that FSG might need to offload players. Notably, Liverpool is open to selling Jota this summer, along with Nunez, who has been made available for transfer.
Last season, Slot often relied on Luis Diaz in a central role, acting as his number nine. The addition of a more traditional striker could significantly enhance Liverpool’s chances of defending their Premier League title next season. While they do have interest in Ekitike, it’s worth noting that Eintracht Frankfurt may demand a fee that aligns more closely with Isak’s quality at Newcastle.
Should Isak be available this summer, his asking price could exceed £120m, as he set a club record by becoming the first player to score in eight consecutive Premier League matches for Newcastle last season.
