Manchester United Plot €40m Double Raid on Atalanta as Third Summer Signing Sealed
Manchester United are reportedly ‘ready to submit an offer of €40m’ for Atalanta star Marco Carnesecchi while also seeking information on one of his teammates. The Red Devils have already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves by activating his £62.5m release clause and signed left-back Diego Leon for £3.2m. They are also closing in on Bryan Mbeumo, having allegedly made a second bid of £65m to bring him in from Brentford as they aim to enhance Ruben Amorim’s attacking options.
Additionally, the club is exploring the transfer market for a new goalkeeper, or potentially two, due to uncertainties surrounding Andre Onana’s position as the No.1 and the expected departure of backup Altay Bayindir this summer. They have reached out to Barcelona and Aston Villa regarding Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Emiliano Martinez, while Amorim is eyeing Porto’s Diogo Costa and scouts are monitoring Botafogo’s John Victor.
However, Gianluca Di Marzio reported recently that the preferred goalkeeper for Manchester United is Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi, who received high praise for achieving 18 clean sheets last season. Initial contact had been made with the goalkeeper’s agent but not with Atalanta itself, a situation that has evolved, according to Alfedo Pedulla. He states that United are set to offer €40m for Carnesecchi, although Atalanta have indicated they want between €45m and €50m for the 24-year-old.
Pedulla mentions that a ‘solution that pleases everyone’ could arise if United includes performance-based bonuses in their bid to bridge the gap. A critical condition for this deal is finding a new home for Onana, which would allow for the necessary transfer funds and salary cap space for Carnesecchi.
Moreover, it’s noted that Manchester United have ‘requested more information’ about long-term target Ederson during discussions, as Amorim looks to bring in a new central midfielder with Christian Eriksen set to depart the club this summer.
In other news, Manchester United confirmed a new deal for experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who has signed a one-year extension at Old Trafford, allowing him to continue his playing career beyond his 40th birthday. Heaton expressed pride in continuing with the club, stating, “As a group, we are all really excited for the season ahead. I am ready to support the team in every capacity as we prepare to get back to challenging for the biggest honours.” Director of football Jason Wilcox added, “Tom’s leadership and experience are really important for the group, so we’re pleased that he will be part of the squad again next season.”
