Paul Doyle’s neighbor expresses disbelief upon learning that he has been implicated in the Liverpool parade incident.

A neighbor of Paul Doyle, 53, who resides in the West Derby area, has expressed their astonishment upon learning that Doyle has been charged in connection with a significant incident that occurred shortly after the Liverpool FC victory parade. The parade, attended by thousands of jubilant fans celebrating the team’s triumph, was marked by a festive atmosphere that quickly shifted when the unexpected event took place. The neighbor described Paul Doyle as a quiet individual, making the news all the more surprising, as they had not anticipated his involvement in such a serious matter.

“There were police officers everywhere when I came out late on Monday night,” the neighbor told the BBC. “I thought, looking around all the houses, what if it was him?” “I didn’t really believe it, but I believed it was him. I constantly see him going up and down with his dog and two sons. He is simply an ordinary individual.

Paul Doyle, according to another neighbor, is “just a nice fella.” He is said to be a father of three, a local businessman, and a former member of the Royal Marines. The police investigation is ongoing, with Paul Doyle expected to appear in court on Friday for an initial hearing.

Sarah Hammond, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service Mersey-Cheshire, commented: “The defendant will appear before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Friday 30 May, 2025. The investigation is at an early stage. Prosecutors and police are diligently reviewing a large volume of evidence, including multiple pieces of video footage and numerous witness statements.”

“It is crucial to ensure every victim receives the justice they deserve. The charges will be reassessed as the investigation continues. We understand that Monday’s alarming scenes resonated throughout the city of Liverpool and beyond, changing what should have been a day of celebration for hundreds of thousands of Liverpool FC supporters. Our thoughts are with all those impacted.”

“Criminal proceedings against the defendant are active, and he is entitled to a fair trial. It is vital that no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information or media online occurs that could potentially prejudice these proceedings. Please allow the legal process to unfold without undue speculation,” Hammond added.

“As mentioned by our CPS colleagues, the man arrested by Merseyside Police in connection with the incident on Water Street has now been charged with seven serious offences,” said Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims of Merseyside Police. “Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, 53 years, of Burghill Road, West Derby, has been charged with two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, all violating Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. He has also been charged with one count of dangerous driving contrary to Section 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Doyle has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court in the morning.”
