Potter Breaks Silence on Rangers Departure as New Move Finalized
Jo Potter felt that the chance to manage Crystal Palace was too good to turn down as she discussed her exit from Rangers. The former Lioness, 40, has officially left the Gers following the confirmation of her appointment at the Women’s Super League 2 team, with the Ibrox club paying compensation.
News of her impending departure broke last night, and it became clearer today why—she was heading to Palace. Both clubs confirmed the move today. Potter believes she is moving to a club filled with ambition, with chairman Steve Parish taking the women’s team very seriously.
In her statement on her new club’s website, she said: “I’m extremely honoured to join Crystal Palace and am looking forward to coming in and hitting the ground running. I know there’s huge ambition running throughout the club. I had a really good conversation with Steve Parish and could see how important the women’s team are to him and his aspirations for this club. It’s a massive place to be right now. We really want to ensure that we’ve got the network and the environment right, so we can make this season a successful one. My message to the fans is that we are going to fight – we are going to fight with you and for you. We want to see you bring the noise and support the team.”
Rangers Women also released a statement earlier, where managing director Donald Gillies said: “I want to sincerely thank Jo for all her efforts over her two years in charge of our women’s first team. There is no doubt we are in a stronger position now compared to when she came in, and she leaves behind a hugely talented, young, and hungry squad for the new Head Coach to work with. While the league will always be our target, extending our winning run to three in the Sky Sports Cup and winning back-to-back Scottish Cups should not be overlooked. On behalf of everyone at Rangers, we wish Jo all the very best for her new role at Crystal Palace. The search has now begun for our new Head Coach, and I look forward to updating our supporters on that in the coming weeks.”
