Ruben Amorim Hints at Man Utd Transfer Shift After Sesko Injury: ‘Let’s See’

Ruben Amorim has suggested that Manchester United may be forced to strengthen their attacking options in January — depending on the severity of Benjamin Sesko’s knee injury sustained in Saturday’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Ruben Sesko was introduced from the bench in the 58th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but lasted just half an hour before limping off in visible discomfort after receiving treatment. With United having already used all five substitutions, Amorim’s side were forced to finish the match with 10 men.

Speaking after the game, which extended United’s unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions, the Portuguese manager admitted concern over the striker’s condition.

“We have to check,” Amorim told reporters. “He had something in his knee, let’s see. Because it’s the knee, we never know. I have no idea yet if it’s serious.”

Sesko’s display before the injury was mixed — the Slovenian forward missed two good chances to add to his tally, but Amorim insisted the issue was not related to confidence.

“No, I don’t think that’s the biggest concern now,” he said. “That happens — one moment he doesn’t score, then he scores two in the next two games. That’s normal for strikers. I’m more concerned about the injury, because it’s in the knee and we don’t know yet. We need Ben to be a better team.”

United’s attacking depth could soon be tested even further, with Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui all set to miss part of the winter through participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ruben Amorim acknowledged that those absences, combined with any potential layoff for Sesko, could alter United’s January transfer plans.

“We have to check everything,” he explained. “Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON], but we already knew that. You can plan in the summer, but then you have a lot of players who don’t play much because there’s only one game per week. So managing that situation is not easy.

“But let’s see when the window opens — if we can improve the team, we’ll try to prepare for what happens. Until then, we have to take our chances and keep going.”

United return to Premier League action next weekend as Amorim awaits updates on Sesko’s scan results.
