Vardy Remains on Leeds Radar Amid ‘On the Money’ Speculation

Russell Martin has remained tight-lipped amidst rumors suggesting Rangers are eyeing a move for former England and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy. The 38-year-old forward, whose transfer to Genoa fell through, is now being strongly linked with a move to Ibrox after parting ways with the Foxes at the end of last season. Leeds United have also been connected with his signing.

When asked about the potential signing of Vardy following his side’s 2-2 pre-season friendly draw against Club Brugge on Sunday, the newly-appointed Gers boss Martin chose not to comment directly but didn’t rule out the possibility. “I think I’ve been asked about so many players,” he said. “Some miles away, some on the money. So basically, I’m not going to give you an answer on that. But I guess you’ll find out who’s real and who’s not in the next few weeks.”

Rangers have made significant strides in the transfer market this summer, having already welcomed five new players to enhance their squad’s depth and competitiveness. Among those rumored to join the team are defenders Conor Coady and Nasser Djiga, indicating that the club is actively looking to strengthen their defensive line. Manager Martin expressed his anticipation for the upcoming changes, stating, “I expect the squad to look quite different in just a week’s time.” He emphasized the necessity for further recruitment, adding, “We definitely want to do more, without a doubt.” Furthermore, Martin pointed out that as the squad continues to grow, it may become essential for some players to part ways to maintain balance and ensure a streamlined roster, noting, “We have to consider that some players will need to move on eventually, as the squad is going to start becoming very big and unwieldy.”

Vardy spent 13 seasons at Leicester. He bid farewell to the club in grand fashion by netting his 200th goal on his 500th outing during their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in May. Leeds signed Lukas Nmecha to bolster Daniel Farke’s attacking options last month. United are keen to bring in further firepower as they look to build a team capable of competing in the Premier League next season.
